What Is An Arnold Press?

The Arnold Press is a great over head pressing variation using dumbells.

With the Arnold Press you start with your palms facing you and as you press you twist the dumbells and at the top you finish in a normal palms facing away finish.

As you lower the dumbells you again twist them on the way down lowering to a palms facing position.

The Arnold Press is a much more joint friendly press variation which can be easier on the joints for anyone with shoulder issues or rotator cuff issues.

As much as I love the barbell and barbell pressing, for some people barbell work can be harder on the elbows or shoulders where you can’t change the hand position throughout the movement.

In this video I coach one of my athletes Jennifer who has some slight shoulder pain when doing a barbell press.  Doing an Arnold press is much easier on her shoulders.  As well  I added in a curl into the Arnold press to get even more results.

Give it a try and let me know how you find it.
